After 4+ years of absence, I finally got a chance to go back to China and in particular my hometown May 31-June 2. Together with volunteers, including some of our former students, Guo Laoshi (the person in charge of our operation in China) and I visited 12 poor family on Sunday June 2, starting at 7:30am and ending a little over 5pm. Our support has made real difference to them, and they appreciated the support very much.

This 6th grader has to school bus for 40 minutes one way to school. Actually, to get to her home from another student’s home, we have to  cross Zhejiang Province (a difference province). Her father goes to neighboring Zhejiang to do odd jobs to support them family.  Her father has eye problem.  Her mom is working at home to take care of her. Her older sister is at college. Her aged grandpa (83) fell down and got injured earlier this year and needs help.  She likes Chinese, dance, and drawing pictures
This 7th grader (far right) lived with her aged grandparents, parents, and disabled older brothter. Her brother looked strong (heavy) but both her hands and legs shranked, could not move or do anything. She helped her family with cooking and chores. She is excellent in sports, especially running.

This 5th grader lives in a big family of 7 people (grandgrandpa in the photo), grandparents, parents, and a little brother. All depend on his parents' odd jobs. His grandma has serious diabetes and his grandpa is not healthy either.
This little girl is outstanding in school, likes math and English. She lives with her grandparents, her parents, and her older sister who is in college majoring in English. Her father got injured before and her grandpa lied in bed due to injury and illness. In the photo included her mom and her grandpa.
These siblings live with their grandparents and oldest sister. Their father died due ro car accident, and their mother left. Their grandpa does odd jobs even with Cerebral infarction, and her grandma also does odd jobs to support the three grandchildren. Their oldest sister is in high school (11th grade). The second sister in 8th grade and the youngest brother is in 5th grade. We work hard and do well in school.
This 8th grader lives with her aged parents (close to 60), Her mother is iliterate and has eye problem. Her father works at a local factory. She needs to get up at 5am and goes to school and has to have lunch at school, and is outstanding in school (top 3).
